information from the superintendent

Dear Claremont Parents, Guardians and School Community:

This is Michael C. Tempesta, Superintendent of Schools for Claremont and Unity, New Hampshire. I am reaching out to you to make you aware of general threats that have been made to all schools in the country for tomorrow, Friday, December 17th.  We have spent the morning monitoring the situation with the safety of children and staff at the forefront of our decision. These threats appear to have originated on Tik Tok and have gained the attention of law enforcement across the country.

Initially, based on our outreach to other school districts in the area, the Claremont Police Department and NHIAC, we felt comfortable opening school tomorrow.  However, at the close of school today and over the last few hours, new information specific to Claremont Middle School and Stevens High School began to come to our attention. Working with the Claremont Police Department and Chief Chase, we have decided to cancel school tomorrow, December 17th,  for all Claremont schools in an abundance of caution while we investigate the credibility of these threats further.

When students return on Monday we will work closely with Claremont PD and have a heightened presence at all of our schools. We appreciate your understanding of the situation and are grateful for your support of our schools. I also want to extend our thanks to the Claremont Police Department for assisting us and keeping the community of Claremont safe during these challenging times.

Have a great evening and be safe.

Sincerely,

Mike
